For the new devices, I have not used the new RICOH Smart Device Connector. I have used Mopria and AirPrint. I can create a new printer and Mopria will print directly to it. I can print a document directly to it as well. I have not tried transferring files to it. With the old Ricoh, I did not have to use the old Ricoh Smart Device Connector. I could print a document directly to the device using the network print driver. The files could be transferred to the device. I have not yet tried doing that with the new RICOH.
The new network is taking a bit to get used to. The new machines are going through a Wi-Fi router. The previous ones were connected directly to the modem. I have set it up like the old machines. The old SDS modem is for the old machines and the new one is just for the new machines. In the old days, the new Ricoh routers did not support Wi-Fi Direct. I had to get the old Ricoh Wi-Fi Direct adapter. I already have the new one. So the old one has been retired. I have not had the Wi-Fi Direct issue, yet. I am still to get other devices to work with it. I have been using RICOH Smart Device Connector for the old devices. I have not tried the new one yet.
For the new Ricoh machines, I just started using the Smart Device Monitor for Admin and that is going well. We have done a backup before and that is not to fail either. Since the service is free, I have not yet felt the need to do the restore process.
I have not had issues so far with the new Ricoh machines. I am sure I will have issues with the new RICOH Wi-Fi Direct adapters. I have more Wi-Fi Direct devices to try. If this is not the solution, I will have to find another solution. I think the solution for the Wi-Fi Direct problem is the Wi-Fi Direct adapter that is provided with the new RICOH router. It is a one plug and play solution. I do not want to have to mess with that. If I have to, then I will look into other solutions.
The other improvement is the move to the new Mopria standard. The Mopria standard can be used to address the issues I have encountered. Unfortunately, with that said, there are some issues, such as not being able to restore an address book backup. Ricoh is working on addressing this.
Ricoh has made some improvements to the Smart Device Monitor for Admin. The problem with the old Smart Device Monitor was that it didn't work if your system was in Japanese. The new Smart Device Monitor is available in Japanese. It also now works with systems in Japanese. My only issue is that I haven't had enough time to develop a workaround for the known issues that do not affect me. Hopefully Ricoh will soon be ready to release a fix.
Logging into the printer with the admin password will not work either. _gen/util/DB/DB.html This has been an issue since the beginning of Ricoh's support for the printer. The reason it is so difficult is that the printer is backed up at an OS level, and the backup is the OS level, and the restore is the printer level. Since the admin password is not stored in the printer, it can't be restored from the backup. If the admin password is, and you know it, this can be used. If not, you'll need to use the Smart Device Monitor for Admin to gain access. The Print Monitor can be used to get into the printer, but not to backup the admin password. 827ec27edc
